Primary Care Implementation
The Stanford Stice Lab is expanding The Body Project into frontline healthcare settings, bringing this evidence-based eating disorder prevention program directly into hospitals and primary care clinics across the country. By embedding The Body Project within primary care, we aim to reach adolescents and young adults earlier, lower the barriers to accessing prevention, and make body-image and eating disorder prevention a standard part of everyday healthcare.
In Practice: Lurie Children’s Hospital
The Body Project has already been implemented at Lurie Children’s Hospital. Their experience offers practical guidance for other health systems considering the program, particularly around insurance and billing:
- Evaluation and diagnosis. Before the group could be billed to insurance, each participant completed an evaluation and received an eating disorder diagnosis (for example, other specified feeding or eating disorder, OSFED).
- Insurance coverage. Lurie Children’s accepts public insurance for the program, not only private insurance, helping broaden access for the families they serve.
Interested in adopting The Body Project? If your hospital or primary care clinic would like to bring The Body Project to your patients, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out through our Contact page or email us at [email protected].
